Since 1890 Ustedalen Hotel has been welcoming guests to Geilo. This traditional hotel offers panoramic views over the majestic Ustedalen fjord and easy access to the Vestlia slopes.

This is Norway’s number 1 winter sports resort and located just 700 meters from the centre of Geilo, close to the ski lifts, Thomson crèche and walking and cycling trails.

Ustedalen is home to challenging terrain, which makes it an ideal base for adventures in the Hallingdal region. We can arrange horseback riding, dog tours, snow scooter safaris, white water rafting and fishing.

Back at the hotel guests can take advantage of the swimming pool, playroom, or relax in the piano bar, and soak up the spectacular views of lake the Ustedalen Fjord.

Ustedalen Hotel has an in house restaurant and sources its fresh produce from the local mountains, streams and seas guaranteeing quality cuisine. Following a meal of traditional mountain cuisine, take a digestive in the lounge in front of the open fireplace.

Ustedalen Hotell has 86 light, comfortable rooms that can accommodate up to 198 guests.

Choose from singles, doubles, family and rooms catering for the disabled.
Spend an evening in front of the fire in the lounge and bar that offer views across the fjord. Live music is available six evenings per week.

Wireless networks are accessible in the lounges, reception area and some rooms.

Near the hotel’s restaurant, children can enjoy the playroom with its slide, playhouse, crazy scrambler and cartoons. For slightly older children, we have a separate activity room that includes a table tennis table.

Food & beverage

The hotel’s cosy restaurant offers panoramic views over the Ustedalsfjord and serves tempting Norwegian traditional dishes made from local produce sourced straight from the surrounding mountains and the sea.

The excellent cuisine is further complemented by a visit to the extensively stocked wine cellar. Finish off your meal with a coffee and a digestive in the open fireplace lounge.

Area information

Nature has made every attempt to ensure that Geilo has the perfect conditions for an international winter sports centre.

Today, Geilo is one of the best developed skiing centres in Northern Europe. Choose from 20 lifts and 39 slopes in the downhill areas, 3 snowboard parks and 500 km of prepared cross-country trails. The closest ski hire centre and ski school are just 350 metres from the hotel.

Other activities include dogsled driving, ice fishing, snow scooter safaris, sleigh rides, ice track driving, and tobogganing.

There are kilometres of mountain roads and downhill tracks, as well as Norway’s best known cycle path Rallarvegen. Hardangervidda is where you can experience the glory of the natural wilderness of Northern Europe’s largest mountain plateau.

Other activities include riding, indoor swimming centres, go-carts, rally driving, rafting, hunting and fishing, and visiting churches and interesting museums.

In addition to the wonderful natural surroundings and cultural attractions, the centre of Geilo offers great cafés, pubs, places to eat and a wide range of shops.

Travel information

By train:
Travel comfortably and efficiently to Geilo on the Bergen Railway. Approximately 3 hours travel from Bergen and 3½ hours from Oslo. The train arrives and departs 5-6 times each day.

By Road:
The shortest drive from Oslo to Bergen is on Rv 7, and half way between the two is Geilo. Rv 7 over Hardangervidda and along the Hardanger Fjord is a national tourist route. Rv 7 is part of the tourist project and is dotted with tourist information boards and resting areas.

From Geilo, Rv 40 travels through the Numedal valley to Larvik, Sandefjord and Tønsberg.
